Is Sunnova in New Jersey?

Yes. In its annual report for 2024, Sunnova said that as of December 31, 2024, “approximately 29%, 17% and 10% of our customers were located in California, Puerto Rico and New Jersey, respectively.”[1] We don’t have a New Jersey customer count or a list of New Jersey dealers.

What happened to the company

Sunnova filed Chapter 11 on June 8, 2025 and sold its assets in court-supervised sales. Sunnova says it “has ceased independent operations” and that SunStrong Management now services “most in-service customer systems.”[2][3][4] That statement is not specific to New Jersey. Ask SunStrong in writing what your contract covers.

Lease, PPA or loan

The NJ Clean Energy Program says that with a PPA or lease the third party installs, maintains and owns the system.[5] If that is you, start with the company you pay each month; Sunnova says SunStrong Management took over servicing for most in-service systems.[3]

Check who actually installed yours

Our suggestion: look for the installer’s name on your contract and permit. It may not be Sunnova.

Your utility interconnection

Your utility, not the installer, holds the interconnection agreement: the NJ Clean Energy Program says the system must be inspected by the local permitting agency and by the utility that holds your interconnection agreement.[5] Utility steps are on the New Jersey guide (PSE&G[6] and JCP&L[7]).
